"Art is the greatest form of expression a person can leave behind."
-Sulyamaan
Gary Murray was born in the small, rural town of Leesburg, VA, where he began his work as a sculpture relief artist. His love and natural talent to invent three-dimensional images out of ropes, yarns, old clothes and found materials led him into new worlds and to a new name, Sulaymaan: One of Peace.
Sulaymaan is a self-taught, multi-faceted artist whose work is a reflection of his view of life and represents a deep commitment to peace, equality, human and animal rights, and environmental protection. Following the belief that all artists have a creative responsibility to contribute to positive change in communities worldwide, Sulaymaan’s vast collection of work is original, emotional and thought-provoking.
Sulaymaan has been described by Beth Neville of the Milton Art Museum as a "self taught artist who has invented a rich, three-dimensional art form which employs the twisted fibers of yarns, ropes, rug yarns and building twine to create his images.” She has also been noted to say, “He is destined to be one of the most highly sought-after and talked about artists” of our time (as quoted in the Loundon- Times Mirror).
Sulaymaan first two series of paintings, “The Unification of Man”, a dedication to man and his responsibility to the planet, and “Survival”, a tribute to endangered species have been featured at several galleries and museums. Appraisers and art critics agree that Sulaymaan's rare style and massive collection are a jewel of creativity suited for private collectors and highly regarded fine art museums.
Following his true calling and dedication to positive change, Sulaymaan is developing an international artist retreat and all-natural, green-friendly, organic farm in Hanover, Jamaica where artists and like minds can come together to join in creativity and innovation.
